NIA arrested one key accuse of Moreh IRB Post attack from Silchar

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested one key accused involved in the armed attack of the Moreh IRB Post on Jan 17 last from Silchar in Assam yesterday that killed one IRB personnel, Special Commando Wangkhen Somorjit Meitei from Malom, and injured two others.

The arrested has been identified as Thangmienlal Mate alias Lenin Mate from Tengnoupal District of Manipur. After the arrest, the accused was produced before the NIA Court in Guwahati and later taken on transit remand to Manipur. However, it is not known which Kuki militant group was associated or affiliated with the arrested person.

The attack took place at around 3 in the morning of Jan 17 last at Manipur’s border town Moreh, at the building of Hotel De Khunia and SBI Office, where the IRB Post was stationed. Heavy gunfire also ensued at the location after Moreh Special Commando retaliated against the attack.
