The arms and ammunition looting case that reportedly took place on February 13, 2024, from the 5th India Reserve Battalion (IRB) camp located at Chingarel Tezpur in the Imphal East district of Manipur has been officially taken over by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The NIA, in compliance with an order of the Ministry of Home Affairs, has also re-registered a case after taking over the one that was registered at Lamlai Police Station in connection with the incident, and petitioned the NIA Court in Manipur to direct Lamlai Police Station to hand over all related case documents and seized materials or exhibits to the NIA’s Investigating Officer.
Pertaining to the incident, six individuals have been reportedly arrested for their alleged involvement in the looting, and seven IRB personnel were also suspended in connection with the security lapse.
