The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Manipur has placed its Assistant Registrar (Estt), Laikangbam Dorendro Singh, under suspension for alleged financial misdeeds and irregularities on Thursday. Under the terms of the suspension, the officer is barred from leaving the station without written permission and will be entitled to subsistence allowance as per government rules.
According to the institute, the charges against the officer include misuse of official position, violation of financial propriety norms, and conduct unbecoming of an employee. The matter was examined by the Board of Governors (BOG) during its 36th and 45th meetings, held earlier this year, and after the allegations, the BOG directed that the official be suspended pending disciplinary proceedings.
The institute clarified that the suspension is a procedural measure and does not constitute a final determination of guilt, adding that further action will be taken in accordance with the provisions of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965.
NIT Manipur also stated that the decision was taken to ensure a fair and impartial inquiry, noting that the officer’s continued presence in office could potentially influence the investigation.
