March 4, 2025: In a significant step towards combating substance abuse, the District Administration Kakching, in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Office, Kakching, organized an awareness cum sensitization programme at Langmeidong, Kakching district, as part of the District Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) Action Plan.
The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) is a nationwide campaign launched by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in August 2020 to create a drug-free India. The initiative is being implemented in 372 vulnerable districts identified through a Comprehensive National Survey and inputs from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
The campaign aims to educate communities about substance abuse through awareness programs, focusing on educational institutions, university campuses, and schools. It also seeks to identify dependent individuals, provide counseling, and facilitate treatment through hospitals and rehabilitation centers, alongside capacity-building programs for service providers.
The awareness event at Langmeidong saw the participation of key stakeholders, including the Caretaker Chairperson of Langmeidong Gram Panchayat, the Waikhong Zilla Parishad Administrative Committee Member, the Probation Officer of the District Social Welfare Office, and representatives from the Social Awareness Volunteer Organisation (SAVO) Kakching.
It is worth noting that the District Administration Kakching and the District Social Welfare Office have been actively conducting awareness campaigns across various Gram Panchayats, including Keirak, Pallel, Hiyanglam, and other locations, as part of their ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse under the NMBA Action Plan.
