With reports of possible relocation and closure of certain camps of Kuki-Zo militant groups after talks with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) recently, the Naga community representative FNCC (Foothills Naga Coordinating Committee) has warned not to relocate any SoO camps in close proximity to Naga-inhabiting areas. Any efforts against the calls will be met with fierce resistance and may result in bloodshed, and the FNCC asked the MHA to dismantle the existing SoO camps located close to Naga areas without delay.
The statement comes after reports of the MHA resuming talks on June 9th with SoO groups after a lapse of two years. The SoO pact became inactive on February 29, 2024, and the state government had earlier withdrawn from the tripartite talks and also suggested through a memorandum sent to the Government of India to withdraw from talks.
The FNCC also said in a statement that it accuses Kuki-Zo groups of unprovoked attacks on Naga villages and employing persistent and systematic land-grabbing efforts in Kamjong, Tengnoupal, Chandel, Kangpokpi, Noney, and even into Senapati district, which exposes the Kuki expansionist agenda and undermines the territorial integrity, identity, and existence of the Naga people.
It also said that when Naga villages are attacked, Kuki militants and their armed volunteers are mobilized en masse, yet the narrative is quickly manipulated to downplay such incidents as mere local disputes. This strategy is clearly intended to suppress a united Naga response. However, we are now vigilant and resolute. Any future aggression will be met with an unwavering iron hand.
