The Ministry of Home Affairs’ plan to conduct India’s 16th Census in two phases is a positive step for the nation; however, considering Manipur’s current situation and the issue of illegal immigration, it would be opportune to conduct the said census after the NRC exercise or implementation of a similar mechanism to enable the enumeration of correct data, said the Campaign for Just & Fair Delimitation (JFD).
According to a press statement from the JFD Campaign Committee, it said no delimitation or census should be carried out in Manipur without having accurate data. To campaign further, the committee (JFD) has also organised a discussion at 1 PM on 18th July at the CCSK office in Imphal and appeals to concerned people to join the discussion.
The said discussion will be attended by CSO leaders, intellectuals, demographers, statisticians, and the legal fraternity.
