March 26, 2025: The delimitation exercise should not be executed until the issue of illegal immigrants is sorted out and those populations illegally occupying reserved forest areas of Manipur are driven out, former State Secretary of CPI L. Sotinkumar stated during the 49th Annual Local Conference of CPI held today at Kumbi in Bishnupur District of Manipur.
“Before delimitation, the NRC should be carried out first. And it has been a resolute stand against delimitation since 2002 for the CPI that it should only be carried out after sorting out the illegal immigrants from Myanmar and driving out those who have illegally inhabited the reserved forest areas of Manipur,” stated the left-wing political leader.
As the delimitation exercise is based on population data, it has now become imperative to sort out the illegal population before delimitation, and there is a possibility of reducing the 60 seats of the assembly to only 5 seats for the valley.
Vying for NRC ahead of any delimitation exercise, the left-wing politician also said that the unrest in Manipur has already entered its 22nd month and is yet to see clear normalcy. The cause of the conflict, apparent to all, is due to a large-scale illegal population influx, and it’s not reasonable to exercise delimitation before the actual problem is solved.
The conference was also attended by CPI Manipur State Council State Secretary L. Thoiren Singh, Former Secretary CPI Manipur State Council L. Sotinkumar Singh, State Assistant Secretary/District In-Charge ODC M. Joykumar Singh, District Secretary CPI Bishnupur District Council Com. Ch. Sarat Singh, and other CPI leaders.
