Noney, November 10 — To safeguard migratory birds, particularly the Amur Falcon (Falco amurensis), locally known as “Akhuaipuina,” the Noney District Administration has enforced a total ban on hunting, killing, catching, and trading of these birds within the district and its surrounding areas.
The directive, issued by Additional District Magistrate Stiff Khapudang, follows a letter from the Divisional Forest Officer dated November 6, 2025, urging immediate action to prevent illegal hunting and to regulate air gun use.
As part of the order, all residents are required to deposit their air guns with their respective village authorities in Longmai, Raengkhung, Awangkhul, Taobam, Khongsang, Rengpang, Nungba, Kambiron, Khumji, Nagaching, Kabui-Khullen, Puichi, Bakwa, Haochong, and other villages within Noney District. The collection reports must be submitted to the ADM’s office by November 15, 2025.
The order will remain in force until November 30 or until the migratory birds depart their roosting sites. The ADM warned that any violation of the ban will attract strict action under Sections 50 and 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
