SHILLONG, Dec 2: National People’s Party (NPP) President Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday said the party is prepared to face the challenges in Manipur, a state currently grappling with law and order issues and political instability.
Speaking to reporters after felicitating newly appointed Manipur State President Dr. Lorho S. Pfoze at the party office, Sangma said challenges should be viewed as avenues for growth.
“Challenges will always be there, and challenges mean opportunities also,” he stated.
Along with Dr. Pfoze, NPP felicitated newly appointed Leader of the Legislative Party Rameshwar M. Singh, Chief Whip Loken Singh, and Working Presidents Janghemlung Panmei and Noorul Hasan.
Sangma expressed confidence that Dr. Pfoze’s leadership will help the party navigate the difficult circumstances in Manipur. “We hope that we will be able to convert those challenges into opportunities and grow as a party,” he said. He noted that the state has faced political turmoil and deteriorating law and order over the past two and a half years.
Responding to comments made by senior party leaders, Sangma reiterated the NPP’s democratic ethos. “We respect the comments by all our senior leaders. Our party is democratic. We believe that expressing views is a positive thing.”
He reaffirmed the NPP’s commitment to inclusivity, saying, “We are a very secular party. We believe in working for all communities in the state and in the region.”
Earlier, while congratulating Dr. Pfoze, Sangma said his experience as a parliamentarian and his dedication to the people make him the right choice to lead the party in Manipur. He highlighted Pfoze’s soft-spoken nature and principled approach.
“The NPP is here to give a positive message—to unify and send the message of unity across the region,” Sangma added.
The party aims to strengthen its organisation in Manipur and the Northeast ahead of the 2027 elections. Sangma assured full support from the national committee, saying, “We will work closely with you to ensure that we are able to organise the party in the right way forward.”
