One arrested as PLA member escapes from police lock-up in Imphal East

April 05, 2026 (IMP): An individual arrested by security forces and kept in the custody of Heingang Police Station escaped after he was taken out of the lock-up for urination on Saturday morning.

The arrest was made on the grounds of him being a member of the banned insurgent group RPF/PLA.

According to reports received by the press, the escape from police custody took place on Saturday at around 9:30 AM. It is reported that when a few police personnel took him out of the police station’s lock-up for urination, he seized the opportunity and escaped from custody.

The name of the person who escaped is Nepram Lemba Meitei alias Tomba, aged 24. He is the son of N. Deva, a resident of Nongada Shantipur Makha Leikai in Imphal East. This individual was arrested by security forces on March 31 from the Khabeisoi area under Heingang Police Station, claiming he is a militant of the RPF/PLA.

Following that, Heingang Police Station registered an FIR against him under the Arms Act and, as per a court order for further investigation, he was remanded to the custody of the police station.

Upon receiving information that the individual had escaped, search operations were launched by the police in various suspected locations where he might have fled. Until the time of filing this report, there is no information regarding his apprehension.
