A one-day awareness programme on the role of the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) was held today at Heingang Gram Panchayat Community Hall, Heingang Mayai Leikai, Imphal East. The event was jointly organized by MSCW and the Spiritual Women Organization, Heingang Mayai Leikai.
Chairperson Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang highlighted the significance of such awareness programmes in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment. She emphasized that achieving full gender equality by 2030 requires education and a deeper understanding of empowerment.
S.K. Sophia Moyon, Member of MSCW, urged women to come forward and register grievances free of cost and also to benefit from government welfare schemes. She informed that MSCW has handled 1,266 cases so far, resolving 1,250 through mutual settlement or legal means.
Advocate Dr. Ch. Narendra Singh and Gurumayum Ravi Sharma also spoke on the role of MSCW and women-centric schemes under the Social Welfare Department. MSCW Member Secretary W. Phajatombi Devi and other commission members attended as presidium members. The programme saw participation from panchayat members, self-help groups, spiritual organizations, and local residents.
