March 16, 2026 (TBL): In connection with the death of Chingakham Malemnganba (51), who was found shot dead at Keirak Muslim Makha Leikai on the 13th of this month, the Kakching District Police picked up one IRB personnel on Monday.
The arrested IRB personnel has been identified as Salam Oken Meitei (39), son of Salam Thabal Meitei, who lives in the same locality as the deceased Malemnganba. He is currently attached to the Kakching District Police Commando from the 7th IRB and is posted in Serou.
The arrested IRB personnel has been given 10 days of police remand by Kakching Police for investigation after he was produced before the duty magistrate in Kakching.
Irate family members and neighbours of the deceased Malemnganba, upon hearing the development, went to Oken’s house this morning, shattered the window glasses, and tried to set fire to the belongings inside the house. However, the situation was brought under control in time by a large number of teams from Kakching District Police and the Commando Kakching Unit as they rushed to the spot on time.
