April 24, 2026 (UKHL): Tension continues to run high in Ukhrul district of Manipur, with reports of escalating conflict between Naga and Kuki groups, in which one Naga Village Guard (NVG) and at least two village volunteers reportedly died in firing.
Reports say the area between Sirarakhong and Sinakeithei villages in Ukhrul district came under attack from armed Kuki men, and one NVG, identified as Horshokmi Jamang (29), son of Lungshim Jamang of Chatric Khullen village in Kamjong district, died.
Meanwhile, the Kuki Organisation for Human Rights Trust (KOHR) claims that armed Naga people opened fire on the Kuki village Songphal-Mullam at around 5:30 am, which led to the death of two village volunteers and injured a few others. However, the identities of the individuals who died could not be confirmed at the time of filing this report.
