Operation Mosquito: Broad Fogging and Sanitation Drive Conducted in Mosquito Breeding Sites in Moreh

Assam Rifles in Manipur neutralized vulnerable mosquito breeding sites through a comprehensive fogging and sanitation drive in Moreh, Tengnoupal, Manipur, on 17 July 2025, in close coordination with HTC and local leaders.

The operation targeted mosquito breeding sites and aimed at curbing malaria, dengue, typhoid, and other vector-borne diseases. The initiative was widely appreciated by the local residents, reflecting Assam Rifles’ unwavering commitment to public health, community welfare, and fostering peace and harmony in the region, according to Assam Rifles.

It may be mentioned that Moreh, the Manipur town bordering Myanmar, has earlier experienced dengue outbreaks in recent past years. In 2022, Moreh reported over 230 dengue cases, with the first case appearing in June.

Dengue and malaria are both mosquito-borne diseases, but they are caused by different pathogens and transmitted by different mosquitoes. Dengue is caused by a virus and transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, while malaria is caused by a parasite and transmitted by Anopheles mosquitoes. Both diseases share some overlapping symptoms, which can make diagnosis challenging, especially in the early stages.
