Over 100 meters of border fence found slashed in Changpol area of Manipur’s Chandel

A section of the Indo-Myanmar border fence at Changpol village in Manipur’s Chandel district was found slashed for around 100 to 200 meters by an unknown miscreant, suspected to have carried out the activity on the night of December 2.

The Indo-Myanmar fencing work, which is currently underway under the Ministry of Home Affairs, aims to block the illegal influx and cross-border weapons and drugs along the porous border with Myanmar. The repair work has now begun in the part that was found slashed down, and the security forces have taken the act seriously, according to sources.

Earlier, there had been reports of opposition by Kuki-Zo inhabitants against MHA’s border fencing efforts, and Changpol village, a Kuki-Zo-inhabited village, is located just around 200 metres away from the international border.
