Over 2 Lakh Women Empowered Through SHGs: MSRLM Director

March 7, 2025: More than two lakh women in Manipur are part of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), driving economic growth and supporting families, said N. Bandana Devi, State Mission Director, MSRLM, at NABARD’s Women’s Day celebration at Hotel Imolesh, Jail Road, Imphal. The event, themed “March Forward: From Promises to Progress,” highlighted women’s resilience and achievements.

Bandana Devi praised SHGs for their role in financial independence, relief efforts, and entrepreneurship. She noted that Manipur’s women-led economic progress was recognized in a recent Delhi meeting. Partha Mandal, General Manager, NABARD, emphasized NABARD’s support for women in agriculture, handicrafts, and small enterprises.

Speakers, including Valentina Arambam, Director of Education, and Bidyarani Ayekpam, MD, MSCB, discussed women’s leadership, family responsibilities, and empowerment. Dr. Basudha Devi, Principal Scientist, ICAR, highlighted advancements in fisheries, while Dr. Rameshwari, Assistant Professor, MU, stressed closing the gender gap in science.

The event featured an exhibition of SHG products, and successful entrepreneurs were honored. The celebration concluded with a cultural performance, reaffirming NABARD’s commitment to women’s empowerment in Manipur.
