As many as 4,464.64 kilograms of single-use plastic carry bags seized from various markets in Imphal since April 19, 2025, by a joint team comprising officials from Imphal Municipal Corporation, Manipur Pollution Control Board, Department of Environment and Climate Change, and Manipur Police, are being transported to an authorized recycling facility.
The seized plastics will be transported to Kakarania Innovative Systems Pvt. Ltd., located at Byrnihat – 793101, Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya. The transportation will be carried out along National Highway 2 (NH-2) under strict compliance with the relevant rules of plastic waste management and recycling.
M/S Ashok Traders, Tentha Marongband, Thoubal, will hand over the seized plastic carry bags to the EPR registered firm for recycling as per norms prescribed by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Prior to handing over, the seized plastic bags have been pierced with iron rods to prevent any possibility of reuse or resale.
Authorities have appealed to the general public to stop using single-use plastic carry bags and switch to eco-friendly packaging materials to safeguard the environment.
