Over 500 Women Sheltering in Relief Camps Attend ‘Ningol Chakouba’ Event in Imphal West

Over 500 women sheltering in relief camps attended this year’s ‘Ningol Chakouba’ event organised at three locations in Imphal West district, Manipur. Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh also visited and interacted with the women IDPs during the celebration.

While attending the event, N. Biren Singh stated that the government must take concrete steps to ensure the safe return and proper resettlement of displaced persons, even though the numbers have decreased. He further informed that efforts for rehabilitation, resettlement, and livelihood support have been underway since his tenure. However, he expressed concern that the current pace of these efforts seems slow and that many families have been relocated without adequate rehabilitation measures.

The event was jointly organised by Uripok Apunba Lup and Uripok Apunba Nupi Lup at Langol Ningthou Laibung, Lamboikhongnangkhong, and Langol Leima Khullen, where food and gifts were distributed to all attendees.

During the programme, S. Tikendrajit, President of Uripok Apunba Lup, highlighted that certain third parties are exploiting the ongoing situation and urged for transparent and fair handling of rehabilitation efforts. Despite the hardships faced by many, the event reflected the enduring spirit of togetherness and resilience among the people.
