Observing Parakram Diwas at Moirang is a tribute to India’s freedom struggle and a reaffirmation of the nation’s resolve to safeguard its unity and sovereignty, Governor of Manipur Ajay Kumar Bhalla said while addressing the observance of the 129th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at the INA War Museum-cum-Library, Moirang, on Friday.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla recalled that the Indian National Army first hoisted the Tricolour on Indian soil at Moirang in April 1944, stating that the courage and sacrifice associated with this historic moment continue to inspire the national conscience. He noted that Manipur’s contribution to the freedom movement, particularly through the INA, remains a source of immense pride and reflects the State’s enduring commitment to patriotism and national service.
A video message from the Prime Minister was played during the programme, in which he remembered Netaji’s fearless leadership, unwavering resolve, and unparalleled contribution to the nation. The Prime Minister said Netaji’s deep patriotism continues to inspire generations to build a strong India, recalling the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Azad Hind Government at the Red Fort and the unfurling of the Tricolour in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to mark Netaji’s historic act.
Upon arrival at INA Moirang, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla led the gathering in paying floral tributes at the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and planted a U-Thambal tree. As part of the observance, he also released the INA Calendar 2026.
Cultural performances by artistes from Eco Moirang, Thoibi Thang-Ta Cultural Association, Ronel Jagoi Centre for Cultural Promotion, and the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy highlighted Manipur’s rich cultural heritage.
Linking Netaji’s ideals to the present national vision, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla said that courage, discipline, unity, and selfless service remain essential foundations for building a developed India. He emphasised that empowered and confident youth must drive the nation’s journey towards development and self-reliance, guided by integrity, collective effort, and social harmony.
The programme concluded with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla flagging off the vehicle convoy of the North East Integration Rally organised by the Knowledge Resource Centre Foundation.
