In a significant step towards peace in Manipur, leaders of the Thadou Inpi (Kuki) groups and prominent Meitei organizations held their first face-to-face meeting today at Classic Hotel, Imphal, amid heavy security.
The 16-member Thadou Inpi delegation was led by its president, T. Michal Lamjathang Haokip, while representatives from COCOMI, FOCS, AMUCO, and Arambai Tengol participated from the Meitei side.
Emerging from the meeting, Munindro Mangang, Commissioner of Arambai Tengol’s Corps Military Police (CMP), briefed the media. “We are still in discussions and nothing has been finalized yet. We will provide updates at a later stage,” he stated.
Mangang added that the talks primarily revolved around the integrity of Manipur and stressed the need to resolve issues faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs). “No meaningful progress can be achieved without addressing their concerns first,” he said.
Although no official statement has been issued, sources indicate that the meeting aimed to develop a roadmap for peace and rebuild trust among the conflicting communities following months of unrest.
