Peace Tour Halted at Sekmai After Rioters in Kangpokpi Turn Wild

8 March 2025: With the situation turning volatile with the rioters against the free movement along the Kuki-dominated areas of Kangpokpi, the peace tour set off from Imphal, spearheaded by the Federation of Civil Society (FOCS) Manipur along with the people, was intervened by security forces at Sekmai Yaiphakol areas in Imphal East, asking them not to proceed further.

Upon returning, FOCS President Th. Manihar expressed disappointment over the security lapses that failed to ensure commuter safety. He also said the purpose of the peace tour was not to provoke anyone but to carry the message of peace; however, hostility shown today at the Kangpokpi area suggests the Kuki may re-attack anytime since all the arms of village volunteers have been handed over to state authorities.

Reports also reach out here that the rioters burned down the MSRTC bus, one Winger along NH-2, and barricaded the road by placing rocks, boulders, etc.
