Phumdi Cleaning at Loktak Lake Gains Momentum; Fishermen Appreciate Initiative of CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh and MLA Tongbram Robindro Singh

March 17: The phumdi cleaning work at Loktak Lake is currently underway following the announcement made by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh during his visit to Thanga Assembly Constituency on February 18, stressing the urgent need for systematic intervention in the lake.

Thanga MLA Tongbram Robindro Singh stated that the initiative is being carried out to ensure proper and systematic removal of phumdis, with the objective of safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of fishermen and farmers while also maintaining the ecological balance of the lake.

Officials of the Loktak Development Authority, led by Project Director Balkrishna Heishnam, have been regularly monitoring and overseeing the progress of the ongoing cleaning work in different parts of the affected areas to ensure its smooth implementation.

Fishermen across the area have welcomed the initiative and expressed their appreciation to the Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand and MLA T. Robindro Singh for taking timely steps to address their long-standing concerns. They stated that as the cleaning work continues, they are already beginning to feel a sense of relief, as it is gradually improving their working conditions and easing the difficulties they have been facing for a long time. The fishermen also conveyed their willingness to extend full cooperation to ensure that the cleaning process is carried out smoothly and effectively for the overall benefit of the community and the lake ecosystem.
