MPCC President K. Meghachandra on Saturday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of deliberately ignoring the people of Manipur, including leaders from his own party, amid the ongoing crisis since 2023.
Speaking at the Block Level Samvidhan Bachao Rally organised by the Khurai Block Congress Committee at Khabeisoi Mamang Leikai, near 7th MR, he pointed out that while the PM frequently visits foreign countries, he has neither visited conflict-hit Manipur nor met representatives from the state, even in the national capital.
He alleged that the BJP-NDA alliance under Modi and Amit Shah continues to impose suffering on the people, with no rule of law, no free movement, growing unemployment, privatisation, and shrinking rights for minorities.
“This silence is not just ignorance. It is the suppression of our constitutional rights,” Meghachandra said.
He further added that the double engine government has only worsened public hardship and actively silenced people’s voices.
Asserting that the Congress is the only hope to defend the Constitution, Meghachandra called for saving democracy from the grassroots level.
The event also saw the participation of former MP Thokchom Meina, social worker Toijam Lokendro, and Congress leader P. Sharatchandra, among others.
