‘PM Mann Ki Baat Mentions Boosting Grassroots Innovators’, Says MSE Seth

DEC 29, 2026 (IMP): The Prime Minister’s recent mention of grassroots innovators during Mann Ki Baat reflects the government’s focus on highlighting real development stories from remote parts of the country. It encourages innovation at the village level and validates years of work in underserved areas, said Manipur-based solar entrepreneur Moirangthem Seth, founder of SNL Energy Solutions Pvt. Ltd., from Thoubal district of Manipur.

Seth’s extraordinary efforts to provide clean power backup supply to several rural households were highlighted by the Prime Minister. SNL Energy Solutions provides customised solar home lighting systems and solar-powered livelihood solutions for handloom workers, tailoring units, and small-scale machines, enabling women and children to study and work after dark. He said the initiative has so far reached over 1,000 households.

Seth, a graduate of Manipur University, began his journey as a social entrepreneur in 2019 after nearly a decade of field experience across remote hill districts, where he witnessed prolonged power outages and a lack of reliable electricity. This inspired him to develop off-grid and solar backup solutions for rural households.

The enterprise works with NGOs, local MFIs, and incubators such as SELCO Foundation and Tata Trusts, allowing beneficiaries to access solar systems through EMI-based financing. While not directly implementing government schemes, Seth said his work complements public efforts in areas that are difficult to reach.

Seth said the company recorded an annual turnover of around ₹2.6 crore in the previous financial year and continues to grow steadily.

Referring to the ongoing situation in Manipur, Seth said movement restrictions have affected nearly 60 per cent of work sites in hill areas, forcing the enterprise to adapt through local partnerships. To sustain operations, SNL Energy has expanded its work to Nagaland and Meghalaya, with support from organisations including UNDP.

He said initiatives like the PM Surya Ghar Yojana have significantly increased awareness about renewable energy, with more people opting for rooftop solar to reduce electricity bills.

Seth added that the Prime Minister’s recognition has inspired youth across the country to pursue innovation and entrepreneurship in clean energy sectors. He appealed for peace and normalcy in Manipur, saying development can only continue in a stable environment.

Sharing a message for young innovators, he said challenges are inevitable, but identifying real problems and working persistently towards solutions can bring meaningful change to society and the nation.
