Preparations are underway for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state on September 13. The PM is expected to meet IDPs in Churachandpur before proceeding to Imphal, where he will deliver a public address at the historic Kangla Fort.
After a closed-door meeting between the Manipur Governor and BJP MLAs regarding the PM’s visit, a legislator, who did not wish to be named, informed reporters that the PM will inaugurate several important projects, including the Manipur Police Headquarters and the Civil Secretariat. However, no confirmation has been given regarding a meeting with MLAs, though the request was raised during the discussions.
The PM is expected to arrive from Mizoram at 2:30 pm and will remain in the state for about an hour. He is also speculated to meet IDP leaders. Preparations for a mammoth stage inside Kangla Fort, which can accommodate nearly 15,000–20,000 people, are underway, where the PM is expected to address the public.
Earlier in the day, former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata, BJP Manipur Pradesh President A. Sharda Devi, the Chief Secretary, the Security Advisor, and 23 MLAs met Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan. The meeting, held ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit, was primarily focused on reviewing security and administrative preparations.
