March 10, 2025: In a crackdown on insurgent activities, security forces and Manipur Police arrested a total of 18 cadres belonging to five different insurgent groups—KYKL, UPPK, KCP (PWG), PREPAK (Pro), and NRFM—from various locations across the state.
Security forces apprehended one KYKL cadre, identified as Mohen Takhellambam alias Renyai (29), near BP 79 under Moreh-PS, Tengnoupal District.
The next day, police arrested three active cadres of UPPK from Langol Type-II, Imphal West. They were identified as Ngangbam Bishan Meitei (24), Ashangbam Manikanta Singh (37), and Sorokhaibam Nganthoi Singh (23). The trio was involved in extorting money through illegal means. Police recovered two four-wheelers, three mobile handsets, and other items from their possession.
In a separate operation, two active members of KCP (PWG) were arrested. Shandham Romen Singh (39) was detained from Samurou, Imphal West, along with 11 demand letters, while Sorokhaibam Inaoton Singh (38) was arrested near RIMS Main Gate, Lamphel, with a mobile handset. Both were involved in extortion activities targeting government officials and the general public.
Additionally, Manipur Police arrested five active cadres of PREPAK (Pro) in two separate operations. Three cadres—Laishram Boboi Meitei alias Boishemba (28), Palujam Babu Singh alias Luthumba (25), and Yumnam Athoibi Chanu—were arrested from Heinoupok near Ima Medhapati School, Imphal West, with three mobile phones recovered. Another two cadres—Chirom Rostam Meitei alias Chiromba (25) and Heikrujam Arvind Singh alias Michael/Heiroiba (32)—were arrested from Khongman Nandeibam Leikai, Imphal East, with two mobile phones seized.
Additionally, six individuals, including five women from NRFM, have been arrested from different locations.
All were accused of extorting money from the public, private firms, and government officials.
