March 9, 2025: In a crackdown, Manipur Police apprehended as many as six active cadres of the NRFM organization, including a woman, for their alleged involvement in extortion and the transportation of arms and ammunition.
The arrests were made in separate operations conducted in Imphal West and Imphal East districts, targeting individuals accused of disrupting public peace and security.
Today, Manipur Police reported the arrest of five individuals from Gandhi Avenue, Thangal Bazar, Imphal West District.
The arrested persons were identified as Keisham Robertson Meitei alias Nanao (29), Moirangthem Tanu Devi alias Chinglembi alias Ichanthol (21), Nameirakpam Rashini Devi alias Thoibi alias Mangaleima (25), Meikam Ichan Chanu (32), and Laishram Menaka Chanu alias Lanchenbi (27). They were allegedly actively involved in extortion activities and the transportation of arms and ammunition.
Among the items recovered from their possession were one two-wheeler, five mobile phones, and one ID card.
In a separate incident, Manipur Police also apprehended Lalphrakpam Soniya Devi alias Tombi alias Lamjingbi (24) from Golapati Masjid Achouba Awang Leirak, Porompat-PS, Imphal East District.
She was accused of extorting money from the general public, private firms, and government officials.
Police recovered one mobile phone and a wallet containing Rs. 1,07,260 in cash from her possession.
