Police arrest two from Assam running cybercrime racket in Imphal

Two individuals from Assam, who were running a cybercrime racket using mule bank accounts, have been arrested by Manipur Police near the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT), Khuman Lampak late Thursday.

The arrested, according to police, are Bikram Basumatary (31) from Barpeta and Sudem Basumatary (35) from Chirang, Assam. They were members of a criminal network tasked with entering transaction data and collecting sensitive credentials such as Aadhaar and bank account details.

Two mule bank accounts used by the duo were linked to economic offences committed in different states, as recorded in the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal.
