Feb 20, 2025 : In a crackdown on noise pollution, the Manipur Police today destroyed 208 modified loud silencers (exhaust pipes) of two-wheelers in Imphal. The operation took place at Alu Gali, Thangal Bazar, at around 9 AM.
Using a bulldozer, the police crushed the modified silencers, which had been causing disturbances in the area due to their excessive noise levels. This action is part of a broader effort to enforce traffic regulations and curb noise pollution, which has been a growing concern in the city.
The police have urged two-wheeler owners to ensure their vehicles comply with noise standards, warning that similar actions will be taken against violators in the future.
