The Lamlong area in Imphal East district turned tense after police fired several rounds of tear gas to disperse a protest march taken out by IDPs against the Sangai Festival in Manipur.
The situation remains tense. One security personnel was injured and rushed to a nearby hospital after protesters pelted stones. There are also reports of injuries on the IDP protesters’ side due to police action. A heavy standoff continued between the police personnel and the IDP protesters till the filing of this report.
Earlier, COCOMI also took out a protest march near the festival venue, denouncing the government’s decision to organise the festival, which was later cracked down on.
