22 Jan 2025 : Though Manipur CM N. Biren Singh’s ‘War on Drugs’ initiative has received widespread commendation from various spheres, there are still places in Imphal, one at his backyard, that are yet to be cleaned or delayed in flushing out the notorious hotspot named North AOC.
Altogether 15 individuals (7 males and 8 females), suspected of being drug peddlers and users, were detained by Manipur Police on Wednesday in an operation in the area. However, no contraband substances were recovered from them during the search.
The police, who seem to be sensitized to this issue, conducted thorough verification of each person, one-to-one, and later referred them to various rehabilitation centers for appropriate treatment so that they can restart their lives after treatment, said a police source.
The identity of those 15 detained was not disclosed due to confidentiality issues.
