In yet another round of familiar political optimism, Kakching MLA M. Rameshwar of the NPP claimed that a “popular government” will be formed in Manipur very soon, a phrase that has now become more of a running joke among the public than a political assurance.
Speaking to media persons, Rameshwar reiterated that the incoming popular government — the same one that has been “arriving soon” for months — will prioritise welfare and developmental initiatives for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), while also working towards restoring peace and normalcy in the state.
However, with no concrete movement or official clarity on the so-called popular government to date, the announcement has once again triggered public eye-rolls.
For many, the claim feels like a political rerun — the promise that keeps returning, but the government that never actually does.
