“President’s Rule is antithetical to the spirit of the Indian Constitution, and that’s why I say, in the rarest of moments, it should not be whimsically extended. Anytime, a popular government is better in a democratic system,” Manipur Congress MP (Lok Sabha – Inner Manipur), Dr. Bimol Akoijam, stated on Wednesday, firing a fresh salvo against the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur.
“The BJP must submit for a fresh mandate if they cannot form the government. The tragedy is that the ruling party, despite having an absolute majority, is not able to form the government,” Congress MP Bimol Akoijam said in a press conference held at his residence in Keisamthong, Imphal.
“Despite having 54, they are not able to form the government. Then they must submit that instead of President’s Rule, let’s have a fresh mandate and a fresh government. Otherwise, instead of extending it like this—my argument is—form your government. Even though I’m a Congress MP, I’m saying your government is better than a President’s Rule government,” MP Bimol stated.
