Chandel, 23rd August: A new book titled “The Chothes of Manipur” was released on Saturday at Chumbang Community Hall, marking an important step in documenting and preserving the heritage of the Chothe tribe.
Authored by PR Rengir Chothe, Assistant Professor of Political Science at United College, Lambung, the book explores the roots, history, and contributions of the Chothe community. Speaking at the event, the author said the work is intended to provide a deeper understanding of the tribe’s identity and serve as a reference for both scholars and the younger generation.
The release function brought together community leaders, educationists, and local dignitaries. The programme was chaired by Y. Bicco, President of the Chothe Baptist Churches Association, while the book was formally unveiled by Malsawm Thao, President of Chothe Lim Abom Manipur (CLAM).
The gathering also featured reflections from several speakers who underscored the cultural importance of documenting tribal history. They expressed hope that the book would encourage more initiatives to preserve the narratives of indigenous groups in Manipur.
The event concluded with words of gratitude from the author, who dedicated the book as a contribution to his people and as a bridge for cultural understanding beyond the tribe.
