Protest Meeting Held Over Swami Sapam’s Murder in Thoubal

July 08, 2026 (Thoubal): The JAC formed in connection with the murder of Swami Sapam (26) of Thoubal Leishangthem Kelimakhong has said that if the culprits are not arrested by the 9th of this month, various forms of agitation will be launched from the next day.

Co-Convenor of the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Swami Sapam, Oinam Ibopishak Singh, stated this while speaking to the media during a protest meeting organised by the JAC today at Leishangthem Kelimakhong Community Hall, Thoubal district.

He said, “On the morning of the 5th of this month, the dead body of Swami was found in Khekman Ningthibi Canal under Thoubal Police Station. A memorandum has already been submitted to the Chief Minister of Manipur, DC Thoubal, and SP Thoubal demanding that the culprits involved in the murder be arrested and given befitting punishment by the 9th of this month. If the culprits are not arrested by the date set by the JAC, we will launch various forms of agitation from the 10th of this month along with CSOs and the public of the area.”

The deceased Swami Sapam’s wife, Roshibina, said, “My husband had gone out for daily wage work on the morning of that day. But finding him murdered in such an inhumane manner the next morning is very painful. Without him, how will I, our child, his elderly parents, and younger siblings survive? I appeal to the Chief Minister of Manipur and the concerned authorities to arrest those involved in the murder as soon as possible and give them punishment, considering the human sentiment.”
