Protesters Against Liangmai Killings Seek SoO Scrapping, KNF-P Ban, Dy CM Nemcha Ouster

July 3, 2026 : Sit-in protests demanding justice for the six Liangmai Naga civilians allegedly abducted and brutally killed by armed Kuki militants were staged simultaneously at Koirengei, Luwangsangbam, Lamlongei, Nilakuthi, and Laipham Khunou on Friday.

Organised by the Justice for the Six Sons of Koubru Joint Committee (J6SKUC) under the aegis of the Joint Tribes Council (JTC), the demonstrations drew hundreds of participants, including women, youth, elders, local clubs, and civil society organisations, who expressed solidarity with the bereaved families and called for swift action against those responsible.

Media-in-Charge Lanhung Bariam stated that the coordinated protests reflected growing public concern over the delay in bringing the perpetrators to justice. He said the movement would continue through peaceful and democratic means until justice is delivered, accountability is ensured, and the rule of law is upheld across the state.

During the demonstrations, protesters raised slogans demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of all those involved in the alleged abduction and killing. They also called on the Government to declare the Kuki National Front (KNF-P) a terrorist organisation, remove Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen from office, and evict all illegal villages allegedly established in violation of the law.

The Committee reiterated its five key demands before the Government of India and the Government of Manipur: immediate arrest and prosecution of all perpetrators; abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) Agreement and an end to the alleged proxy war; declaration of the Kuki National Front (KNF-P) as a terrorist organisation; immediate removal of Nemcha Kipgen as Deputy Chief Minister; and eviction of all illegal villages.

The Committee maintained that its statewide campaign for justice would continue to expand across Manipur until those responsible are brought to justice and its demands are addressed.
