Widespread protests against the recently passed Waqf Amendment Act continued across Manipur on Saturday, with thousands of people taking to the streets to express their strong opposition. The Act, which was approved by Parliament last week, has triggered significant backlash, particularly among the Meitei Pangal and Manipuri Muslim communities.
A major rally was organized in Santhel, Kakching district, where demonstrators, including women, youth, and community leaders, raised slogans such as “BJP Down Down” and “Our Waqf, Our Right.” Protesters called for the immediate repeal of the Act, claiming it undermines their community rights, land ownership, and religious assets.
