The District Health Society (DHS), Pherzawl, on Thursday conducted a rabies awareness programme and deworming drive at Government High School, Senvon, under the Sardar@150 initiative. Students and faculty from multiple schools participated in the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Hmanglamkhup Kom noted a rise in dog-bite cases across several districts, including incidents leading to fatalities. He stressed the need for immediate first-aid measures, followed by urgent reporting to the nearest healthcare facility for anti-rabies vaccination after any suspected rabid dog bite.
Dr. Kom further advised pet owners to ensure timely vaccination of their dogs — once between 14 to 16 weeks of age and subsequently every year — to effectively prevent rabies transmission.
As part of the programme, DHS also initiated the second round of deworming tablet distribution to students under PHC Senvon, reaffirming its continued efforts toward strengthening community health and disease prevention in the district.
