Radio Nongin Marks 5th Foundation Day, Celebrates Community Voice and Impact

Community radio station Radio Nongin 90.8 MHz FM celebrated its 5th foundation day today at Gandhi Memorial Hall, Mayol, highlighting its growing role as a people-centric platform for awareness, culture, and grassroots engagement.

Based at Gambhir Singh Shopping Arcade, BT Road, Imphal, the station marked the occasion in the presence of several dignitaries, including Khangabok A/C MLA Okram Surjakumar, Babina Group of Companies Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Thangjam Dhabali, Radio Nongin Advisor and Manipur University Professor Dr. Sanasam Subhamenon, retired IAS officer Mangsatabam Harekrishna, Moirang College Principal and Advisor Dr. Raheijuddin Sheikh (Oja Samu), and Founding Director Yendrembam Ibungochouba.

The programme featured cultural performances, with two young girls presenting a traditional folk song that resonated with the audience and added a vibrant touch to the celebration.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Okram Surjakumar lauded Radio Nongin for its dedicated community service, stating that the platform has been instrumental in reaching out to people across the state, especially those in remote and underserved areas. He noted that community radio serves as a crucial medium for understanding public concerns, needs, and aspirations at the grassroots level.

He further emphasized that Radio Nongin has been actively disseminating important information related to health, culture, agriculture, and various other sectors, thereby contributing meaningfully to public awareness and social development. The station has also played a key role in promoting local art, culture, and sports, while encouraging community participation.

Highlighting its journey, Founding Director Yendrembam Ibungochouba recalled the critical role played by the radio station during the COVID-19 pandemic, when movement restrictions confined people indoors. During that period, Radio Nongin provided vital awareness programmes, along with health-related information and entertainment content, helping to ease public anxiety.

He also pointed out that the station has consistently worked to nurture local talent through initiatives such as talent hunts and current affairs programmes, offering a platform for individuals, from children to senior citizens, to express themselves and showcase their abilities.

Reaffirming its commitment, he stated that Radio Nongin will continue to expand its outreach and undertake more community-oriented initiatives in the future, aiming to further strengthen its role as a voice of the people.
