In a commendable act of wildlife conservation, a rare pangolin was rescued unhurt and handed over to the Forest Department by Marem Wilbur and his father, Marem Molungthar, residents of Maringphai village in Tengnoupal district.
The pangolin was discovered early Thursday morning near Saibol village. Upon spotting the animal, the duo promptly alerted forest authorities.
A swift rescue operation was carried out under the supervision of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Mahamuda Begum and Range Officer Md. Salauddin of the Tengnoupal Forest Division. The pangolin was later safely released into the Langol Reserved Forest within the Sadar West Range.
DFO Mahamuda Begum praised the father-son duo for their responsible and timely action, calling it an example of how community involvement can aid wildlife protection.
Pangolins are listed under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, marking them as critically endangered. The Forest Department continues to intensify efforts to curb poaching and illegal trade of pangolins and other protected species in the region.
