Repair efforts to plug the massive breach at Wangoi are now in full swing, with skeleton works nearly completed. Earth-filling operations have already begun, with JCBs deployed to place earth and other materials to strengthen the damaged embankment.
The breach, measuring nearly 50 feet, had opened up yesterday, September 17, triggering severe flooding across Wangoi AC and inundating homes, paddy fields, and roads. Hundreds of families were affected as floodwaters surged into residential areas.
Local residents, joined by volunteers, police personnel, rescue teams, and officials of the Water Resources Department, have been working round the clock with heavy machinery and earth materials to contain the flow. Progress at the site has offered some relief, though the overall situation remains critical.
Meanwhile, other areas of Imphal Valley continue to face heavy flooding. In Imphal East, many houses remain underwater in Kongba. Water levels are reported to be slowly receding.
Authorities have assured that reinforcement of the breached embankment is being prioritized to prevent further escalation of the crisis.
