Widespread condemnation has poured in against the incident involving security personnel from various sections, including prominent CSOs, elected representatives, and political leaders, wherein central forces, believed to be personnel from the Maha Regiment or Jat Regiment, halted a state-owned MST bus ferrying journalists for Shirui coverage along the Yaingangpokpi-Gwaltabi area and forced them to remove the state name ‘Manipur’ from the inscription on the windshield this morning.
Kakching MLA Rameshwar Mayengbam said, “The incident is highly unfortunate; I condemn it at the highest level.” He also stated that he strongly disagreed with the act and urged the concerned authority and officials, whether from the state or central government, to clarify at the soonest.
Meanwhile, the BJP has also expressed strong condemnation of the incident. “If wrongs are committed, then the party (BJP) will not remain silent—whether it may be under President’s Rule, another government, or our own. If it’s hurting the sentiments of the people of Manipur and goes against the people’s interest and will, then BJP will never stay silent,” a party spokesperson said.
