Senapati , Dec 19, 2025: Asoso Yonuo, popularly known as Kosa, of Tunggam Village, Senapati, passed away on Dec 17 at the age of 95 at his residence in Sukhovi, Chümoukedima, Dimapur. He was a veteran educationist, historian, accredited journalist, author, and mentor to generations of Northeastern students.
Yonuo, one of the earliest Naga settlers in Delhi since 1960, guided hundreds of students and professionals from the Northeast, providing mentorship, shelter, and guidance that shaped both careers and personal growth.
The Service of Remembrance at TNK Village, Senapati, was attended by civil society members, students, and prominent dignitaries including B. Kezo, IPS (Retd.), former DGP of Nagaland; Ashuli Chalai, former Additional Secretary, National Commission for Women; and R. B. Pani, President of PNU. All highlighted Yonuo’s influence on their professional and personal lives.
He was revered as an “Encyclopedia of Naga and Northeast History” for his scholarly depth, humility, and simple lifestyle. Personnel from the Border Security Force and Assam Rifles, led by DIG (Med) Dr. Khole Key, also paid tribute, reflecting the respect he commanded across institutions.
Asoso Yonuo is survived by his wife J. C. Anal, DIG (Med), Assam Rifles; two sons; two daughters; and two grandchildren. His contributions as a scholar, mentor, and author continue to inspire and guide future generations.
