A shocking gun attack on HornbillTV reporter Dip Saikia in Laii village, Senapati district, this evening has drawn strong condemnation from the media house, which termed it a direct assault on press freedom and democratic values.
HornbillTV said the journalist was shot while covering a cultural event, stressing that such violence against media professionals cannot be tolerated in any society that upholds justice and accountability.
Raising concern over the growing hostility faced by journalists in the region, the channel urged the Governments of Nagaland and Manipur, along with law enforcement agencies, to ensure a swift and impartial investigation. It demanded that the perpetrators be brought to justice without delay.
The media house extended solidarity to Saikia and his family, wishing him a speedy recovery, while reminding that safeguarding press freedom is a collective duty of the state, civil society, and citizens alike.
