In an exclusive interview following the passing of Pope Francis, Rev. Fr. Francis Vialo, Financial Administrator of the Archdiocese of Imphal, expressed deep sorrow over the pontiff’s demise, calling it an immense loss for the global Catholic community.
Speaking from the Archbishop House in Mantripukhri, Fr. Vialo reflected on the life and legacy of Pope Francis, who died early Monday morning at the age of 88 in Vatican City due to complications from long-standing health issues.
“Pope Francis taught the world the true meaning of humility, compassion, and service,” Fr. Vialo said. “He led by example, showing us that faith must be lived through action—by walking with the poor, standing for justice, and embracing those at the margins.”
Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires, Argentina, became the first Jesuit and Latin American pope when he was elected in March 2013. His decade-long papacy was marked by a strong focus on social justice, environmental stewardship, and reform within the Church.
“His death is a moment of sorrow,” Fr. Vialo added, “but his life is a celebration of what it means to serve Christ in today’s world. His teachings will guide us for generations to come.”
