Showing grit and precision, Riflewoman Sanju of the Assam Rifles secured a gold medal at the 2nd COAS Cup Boxing Tournament 2026, bringing pride to the force and highlighting the rising prowess of women personnel in competitive sports.
According to a release issued by the Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), Sanju, representing the All India Police Sports Control Board, clinched honours in the 60 kg lightweight category at the championship held at the Army Sports Institute from March 30 to April 5.
In the final bout held on April 3, Sanju outclassed Nikita Chand of Uttarakhand with a convincing 4:1 decision, demonstrating superior technique and composure under pressure. She remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, winning all three of her bouts with consistency and tactical discipline.
The release noted that her achievement stands as a major milestone in her sporting career and serves as an inspiration for women across the force. It also reflects the growing role of women personnel in bringing national-level recognition to the organisation.
