Imphal, January 22, 2025: The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal, Manipur, has been officially included in the list of Centres of Excellence (CoE) for Rare Diseases, making it the first such centre in the Northeast and the 13th in India.
The designation recognises RIMS as a premier government tertiary hospital, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of rare diseases.
Patients seeking treatment for rare conditions can now approach these Centres of Excellence, with the added benefit of financial support of up to ₹50 lakh per patient under the National Policy for Rare Diseases. The policy covers 63 rare diseases approved for treatment at these centres.
RIMS Imphal’s inclusion follows four rigorous inspections conducted by a panel of experts, highlighting the hospital’s adherence to high-quality standards and its capacity to deliver specialised care.
The development is expected to significantly improve access to medical services for patients with rare diseases in the region.
