JAN 22, 2026 (IMP): The Joint Action Committee (JAC), formed against the abduction and killing of 38-year-old M. Rishikanta in Churachandpur on January 21, has demanded that the case be handed over to the NIA immediately and has appealed to the state authorities to bring back the body.
The irate public of Kakching Khunou took to the streets in shock after the video of the Meitei man went viral, imposing a flash bandh along the Indo-Myanmar-Sugnu road in Kakching. Women’s groups in the area also staged a sit-in protest against the incident that took place in the Natjang area of the Henglep sub-division in the Churachandpur district of Manipur after he was abducted from Tuibong. The body has now been deposited in the morgue at Churachandpur District Hospital, according to a report yet to be confirmed by the district authorities.
Meanwhile, the Kuki National Organisation (KNO), in an immediate press statement, said the outfit is not involved in the incident and clarified that the organisation neither has nor had any knowledge of the visit of the deceased. The organisation further said, “Under no circumstance is any spouse of our people from any other community ever subjected to such activity.”
Mention may be made here that Mayanglambam Rishikanta, son of M. Tombi Singh from the Uchal Makhong area of Kakching Khunou, had visited the district to meet his spouse, Chingu Haokip, from the Tuibong area of Churachandpur. Both were said to have been kidnapped by three armed miscreants on the evening of January 21, and later videos of the execution went viral.
