Feb 26, 2025 : Renowned fashion designer and handloom entrepreneur Robert Naorem has successfully presented his latest collection, “Manipur,” at an exclusive international fashion show in Milan, Italy. The event, organized and produced by ETv Italy, featured ten designers from ten different countries, with Naorem representing India on the global stage.
The “Manipur” collection is a tribute to the cultural and artistic heritage of Naorem’s home state of Manipur. Incorporating the state emblem, indigenous animals, flowers, birds, and traditional scripts, the collection showcases signature elements of RN Designs. Focused on sustainability and handloom revival, the collection highlights the versatility of Manipur’s woven silks, beautifully complemented by intricate hand embroidery aimed at the international market.
Blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics, Naorem’s designs include original Manipuri traditional attire, Indian sarees, and Western silhouettes, all crafted from the exquisite weaves of Manipur in a sophisticated color palette of black, cream, and ivory.
The event was further elevated by the presence of Manipuri artist Suchitra Wangkhem, who walked the runway alongside 15 models, set to the soulful music of Mangka—a performance that underscored the cultural depth and heritage of Manipur.
Naorem’s participation in this prestigious event highlights his unwavering commitment to promoting Manipur’s textile industry on the global platform, bringing much-needed visibility to the region’s unique handloom sector amid ongoing challenges.
