March 24, 2025 : A one-day workshop on “Improving Transparency and Accountability in Government through Effective Implementation of the Right to Information Act” was held today at the Conference Hall, DC Office Thoubal. Organized by the State Academy of Training, Manipur, in coordination with the Department of Personnel & Training, Government of India, the workshop aimed to enhance awareness and effective implementation of the RTI Act.
ADM Thoubal, B. Lokeshor Sharma, who chaired the session, emphasized the importance of such workshops in educating officials and ensuring better governance. He appreciated the efforts of the State Academy of Training for organizing similar programs that benefit both the administration and the public.
Resource person N. Brajakanta Singh from the Department of Law, DMU, highlighted the significance of RTI and explained how citizens can access information. He also underlined that while the public has the right to obtain information, certain exemptions exist, particularly for matters concerning national security.
Over 30 officials from various departments, including the Home Department, actively participated in the workshop, engaging in discussions on RTI’s role in ensuring transparency and accountability in governance.
